How do I download a "Word-type" program so I can write letters onto eMac OSX Tiger free (and easy?)? - download free osx hebrew english interlinear pdf

Tried "openoffice.org"; downloaded as free, but then said I needed "disc that came with the computer." The son says, it's not true - only for the discharge connected in a system with more than one computer. How can I speak a program compatible with Microsoft Word on my iMac without a lot of techno, please!
